Though power consumption figures vary across computers, implementing a smart
PC energy saving program can benefit organizations of all sizes, as an average PC left standing
idle consumes between 18 to 30 times more wattage than when in power-saving mode.
Assuming 9 hours of daily usage and 5 workdays a week, the average PC consumes 2.25 KWh per day, adding up to 810 KWh per year.
Though electricity rates vary from country to country, on average 1 KWh costs $0.10 in the U.S and €0.12 in Europe. This translates into an annual per PC electricity charge of $82 and €100 in the U.S and Europe, respectively.
By maximizing the time that PCs remain in standby mode when not in use, daily power consumption drops by as much as 60%. This translates into annual savings per PC of up to $50 in the U.S and €60 in Europe!
